How to Get to Gardiner, Montana

Yellowstone’s North Gate is just five minutes away

Directions

From the north

From I-90 take exit 333 at Livingston and go south on Highway 89 for 52 miles. Once in Gardiner go about a half mile and turn left on Travertine Street just before the Baptist church. Follow the gravel road about a quarter mile to the entrance.

From the south

Exit the park through the Roosevelt stone arch, travel two blocks and turn left onto Highway 89 at Rosi’s. Go about half a mile and turn right on 1st St. N, then an immediate left on Bigelow Lane (unmarked), then travel 200 feet to the entrance on your left.

The Only Gate Open to Yellowstone Year-Round

The North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park Is the only park entrance open to wheeled vehicles all year. The Yellowstone Gateway Inn is located in the gateway community of Gardiner, Montana.

While most park activity runs May through October, during November through April the North Entrance provides the only access to the northeast roads leading to the wildlife corridor of the Lamar Valley and Cooke City, Montana.

The road from Mammoth to Norris, Old Faithful, and West Yellowstone is open to wheeled vehicles from the third Friday in April through the first Sunday in November, and to commercially guided, tracked over-snow vehicles from about December 15 to the Monday of the first full week in March (weather and snowpack permitting).

Other park roads open seasonally May through October.
